Office of Risk Management and Insurance Research
The Office of Risk Management and Insurance Research (ORMIR) conducts research that examines the critical issues facing the risk management industry and engages students and other stakeholders across the university to better recognize, analyze, and address risk.
Because new risks are continuously altering the physical and operational landscape, it becomes increasingly difficult to effectively anticipate the future. Emerging risks – including climate change, cyber risks, and others that may not be known or clearly evident – will have economic consequences that are increasingly linked to societal and geopolitical risks. These are among the areas where research conducted through ORMIR can have an impact.
Supporting scholarship
We actively engage with insurers, reinsurers, industry trade groups, and educational foundations to seek and promote internships and academic scholarships for students interested in pursuing insurance and risk management careers.
ORMIR is proud to provide universitywide access to insurance industry insights through its academic membership in the Insurance Information Institute. This access enables all students and faculty in the University of Illinois community to access relevant, timely, and data-driven information on the business of insurance.
Creating a Triple-I account gives you access to publications, infographics, toolkits, presentations, webinars and a robust archive to enrich your classroom materials.
If you encounter any difficulties, please reach out to members@iii.org for assistance.

Building a collaborative community across campus
Effective risk management requires tools, tactics, and techniques to manage the many complexities that organizations face. ORMIR strives to bring together those resources from across campus. University of Illinois researchers from a variety of colleges are doing important work in the risk management space, and ORMIR will facilitate sharing and categorizing this research to make it more accessible and to help organizations manage the ever-increasing array of risks.
