College of Business team wins 6th Annual Real Estate Challenge
Winners of the 2016 Midwest Real Estate Challenge
A team of students from Illinois won the Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation Midwest Real Estate Case Challenge 2016.
The winning team members in the College of Business are Ben Skinner and Austin Pye, both in the Finance program.
The Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation works in partnership with 16th Ward Alderman Toni Foulkes and the City of Chicago for the sixth annual Real Estate Challenge. Students from nine Midwest universities competed against each other through a live presentation of their plans to redevelop the former Englewood Mall, which consists of approximately 7.4 acres of city-owned land on Chicago's South Side. The goal of the 2016 Real Estate Challenge was to design and present concepts to revitalize the once-booming site by creating localized employment opportunities and reinvigorating the Englewood Commercial Corridor.
The team won out over 8 other teams, including Loyola University, Notre Dame, and Indiana University. They earned a $5,000 scholarship toward Illinois' Real Estate Education program. Roger Cannaday, Mike Mallon, and Alexei
Tchistyi helped coach the winning team.
